Words are cheap for the ordinary man but dear for him. His studied hesitation leads, however, closer to truth. This interpretational discipline must be vigorously applied until it leads to a thorough understanding of all concepts which are the essential counters in philosophical research. For when men go astray in their definitions of these highly important terms, they will surely go astray in their thinking, and thence be led astray altogether from truth.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u00a0\u201cIf we wish to serve the many with this truth-offering, then the terminology which bewilders and irritates them must be absent from our speaking and writing, whether it be the jargon of metaphysics, the exoticism of Sanskrit, or the abracadabra of occultism; let us say plainly what we mean.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-92ae260 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"92ae260\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-77e2fb6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"77e2fb6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Throughout history, spiritual and philosophical literature has developed a specific terminology, shaped by the distinctive style of countless authors.<\/p><p>For this reason, correctly interpreting certain ambiguous terms or expressions is often a challenge. This ambiguity stems, in part, from the context or subtle punctuation details that substantially alter the meaning. Furthermore, since these are ancient texts that have undergone multiple transcriptions before reaching us, many words have evolved into diverse meanings\u2014sometimes very similar and other times quite different.<\/p><p>Likewise, it can be complex to determine the equivalents and synonyms that a single author uses in their work, or to establish an exact correspondence between the terms of different authors. Since it is common to refer to the same reality in different ways, it is essential to decipher these conceptual equivalences as precisely as possible.<\/p><p>Added to this are translations\u2014a topic we address in depth in other sections of this website. The different versions of a text, having diverse origins, often add new layers of ambiguity to specific expressions.<\/p><p>Given the intrinsic complexity of language and its historical transformations, this <strong>GLOSSARY<\/strong> was created with the purpose of offering rigorous and enlightening information. Our intention is to provide a practical guide to help those who visit this website resolve their conceptual questions.<\/p><p>We conclude with two more notes by Paul Brunton that perfectly illustrate this challenge:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cThe meaning of a word or phrase may be multiple, which is why translations vary, why interpretations are disputed, and why statements in bureaucratic jargon leave some persons uncertain and others unclear.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cJesus spoke in Aramaic but the written texts of his teaching came to us in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. Buddha spoke in Pali but at least half his followers got the written teaching in Sanskrit.
